The Big School Room (for our 2 to 5 year olds)

This is a stunning open plan room catering for the 2 to 5 year olds. You can chose full days or alternatively a morning 8-1 or an afternoon 1-6.

The room is equipped with all the Montessori apparatus, arranged around the room according to abilities. It is here that all the foundations of the The Little School room come in to fruition and your child is give every opportunity to truly bloom, within this environment.

The areas of the curriculum are as follows:
  • Practical Life - These are simple exercises that allow the children to develop practical skills and that encourage co-ordination and concentration through the care of themselves and their environment.
  • Sensorial - This offers a very rich variety of apparatus that attracts nthe child and helps them to explore and continually extend their understanding and knowledge through their senses; touch, sight, sound, smell, and stereognostic senses.
  • Physical Education - Our entire environment works on the continual development of the child’s physical body and they have the freedom of movement for both fine and gross motor skills. We have wonderful facilities for inside and outside (in our lovely gardens and paddocks) for children to enjoy and maximise their physical development.
  • Language and Literacy - This is an indirect approach to facilitate reading, writing, social and comprehension skills. We have a book corner and a wealth of story telling, news talks and conversation. Indirect and direct roads into reading are approached via a ‘phonic’ approach. Children learn to write their name, to recognise and sound lower case letters of the alphabet and to do simple reading.
  • Mathematics - This is the development of number concepts and mathematical operations. Your child will learn to recognise numbers, count, and maybe even do simple sums.
  • Cultural and Environmental Studies - This is an experimential introduction to botany, science, history, geography, nature and conservation.
  • Art and Craft - We offer a profusion of techniques and materials with the emphasis on free expression and the development of creative skills utilising paints, crayons, clay collage etc.
  • Music and Movement - We offer a wide variety of techniques here to, including singing, dancing, movement and poetry as well as drama.
  • Religious Education - We believe that spirituality within the child is nurtured through a sense of awe and wonder for the natural world in which we live, and a respect for the environment. We celebrate the Christian festivals and nurture an awareness of different creeds and denominations.
We also offer a range of extra curricular activities that include French, computer skills, ballet, and pony riding.
